A small firm,
on purpose.
We are an independent law firm in Denpasar. No head office abroad, no outside investors, just six lawyers who answer to their clients and to each other.
Tirta means water in Balinese, the kind that is used in blessings. We liked the idea of a firm that brings clarity to things that feel murky, and that keeps flowing alongside its clients long after the first matter is done.
Ayu and Made met at law school in Denpasar and went separate ways: Ayu to commercial practice in Jakarta, Made to land work back home in Tabanan. In 2012 they opened a two room office in Renon with a simple rule: explain everything, agree the fee first and never take a shortcut that a client would regret later.
Fourteen years later the rule has not changed. The team has grown to six lawyers who between them speak six languages, but we are still small enough that every client knows who is working on their matter.
Principles
Four things
we never skip
They sound simple. Keeping them on every matter, every week, is the actual work.
Plain language
Every advice note fits on two pages. If we cannot explain it simply, we have not understood it yet.
Fees agreed first
You know the price before we start. No hourly meter running while you ask questions.
Partner supervision
Every matter has a responsible lawyer and a partner who reads the work before it reaches you.
Rooted locally
We respect adat, the banjar and the people behind every piece of land. Good law here starts with that.
Our story
Fourteen years,
one office
A few moments that shaped the firm we are today.
- 2012
Ayu and Made open a two room office in Renon with one client and a borrowed printer.
- 2014
Hélène joins from Lyon and our first French speaking clients follow.
- 2017
Sari builds the licensing practice for villas and small hotels.
- 2020

- 2023

- 2026
Six lawyers, six languages, still one office and one way of working.
Beyond the office
A free legal clinic, once a month.
On the first Saturday of every month, two of our lawyers sit in a banjar hall in Denpasar and answer questions from anyone who walks in: inheritance, land, work contracts, family matters. It is in Bahasa Indonesia and Balinese, and it is free.
It keeps us close to the questions people here actually have, which makes us better lawyers for everyone else too.
Careers
We are hiring an associate.
Corporate or property background, fluent English, based in Denpasar. Curiosity and good writing matter more than years of experience.
